Yesterday marked the very first time I attended an MLS game, and I must say, it was probably the best experience I've ever had at a sporting event. Sure, I love baseball, but this was in a category all on its own.
I went to the game at Lincoln Financial Field with my family and boyfriend, and the only thing I had against the people at the game were that they were showing up LATE and kept coming when the ball was still in play. Ugh. Anyway, not everyone knew the chants; at one point, the DC United fans were louder than the Sons of Ben (the guys sponsoring the Union). But at any rate, the crowd knew the game of football (soccer, you dolts) so they knew what was going on and cheered when needed (cards, goals, the like).
Oh, this was fun too. Before I talk about what happened, I'll just say the DC fans were in the upper decks of the Linc. Well, once DC scored, guess what they did. OUT CAME FLYING BEER CUPS.
See, there are rules that usually come with each stadium, such as no foul language, no throwing things, and no excessive alcohol. Who listens to that? Seriously. I don't think I've ever seen so many "birds" in my life. Flying cups, peanut dust, good gravy.
Luckily, the Union won the game. I wonder how many people got locked up last night.
